UNIT 1 becomes the first helmet brand to integrate real-time ride data via the Live Data Interface from Bosch eBike Systems.
Hamburg, Germany — August 26, 2026
In an unprecedented milestone for rider safety, Smart Helmet pioneer UNIT 1 announces that it has become the first helmet brand to integrate Live Data from the smart system from Bosch. The interface from Bosch provides a direct and open channel for third-party applications to use live ride data from ebikes, enabling a new range of possibilities for riders and developers alike.
“Today, this is a milestone in compatibility, but for cycling safety, this signals a fundamental shift: when the bike and the helmet work together, the riding experience becomes more connected and safer than ever. This is the first step towards that future, and we are very excited about it.”
Juan Garcia Mansilla, cofondatore e CPO di UNIT 1
Acting as a first mover on the helmet side and one of the first brands to actively integrate and bring the benefits of the Live Data Interface from Bosch directly to riders, UNIT 1 lifts the bar for safety well beyond impact protection, making the helmet an extension of the bike.
Creating a new industry standard
Historically, safety gear has been designed around one simple concept: absorbing energy during a crash. Of course, there’s a nuance to this: there are varying degrees of impact protection, legacy certifications vs new - more demanding - certifications, systems to absorb rotational energy and even open rankings like Virginia Tech to separate the truly great helmets from the rest.
UNIT 1 tackles this head-on, offering best-in-class impact absorption, NTA-8776 certification, Mips System and the only 2 Smart Helmets with 5 stars in the Virginia Tech rating - but also goes beyond the traditional definition of Safety, beyond just impact protection.
Where ‘Passive Safety’ can save a rider’s life during a crash, Active Safety can prevent that crash from happening in the first place. Active Safety is UNIT 1’s true power, working continuously for the rider: from making them visible and predictable with integrated lights, turn signals & brake lights, to protecting their head with NTA-8776 Certification and Mips, to calling for help if they are involved in a crash, to helping first responders save seconds when it matters the most. This is UNIT 1’s signature across its entire lineup, and with its connection to Bosch smart systems across 100+ leading bike brands worldwide, it is about to become the new industry standard.
Why this moment matters
Urban eBike adoption has grown rapidly, and the riding environment has evolved with it: more riders, denser traffic, and higher average speeds. While much of the helmet industry has continued to prioritize weight reduction and incremental improvements, UNIT 1 responded differently: embracing the new NTA-8776 Certification and developing smart safety technology to protect riders in today's cities, with today's e-bikes, at today’s speeds.
In this context, UNIT 1’s integration of the Live Data Interface from Bosch makes more sense than ever: it marks an evolutionary leap forward in the way safety gear works with the bike, filling a gap that has been empty for years.
La bici incontra il casco
The bike industry and the helmet industry have seen plenty of advancements on the connectivity and safety sides over the past decade, but each has been operating independently. The thought of connecting a helmet to a bike was unprecedented until UNIT 1 did it for the first time with Stromer in 2023.
This integration takes that idea to new heights, combining live ride data from the new Live Data Interface from Bosch with UNIT 1’s Active Safety technology.
Through this collaboration, this bike-to-helmet connection will enable an array of connectivity and safety features that will positively impact the rider’s experience on an e-bike with the smart system from Bosch.
What it does for the rider
The first version of the integration of live ride data from the Live Data Interface from Bosch includes three connected behaviors – all automatic, all requiring zero input from the rider:
-
Helmet Auto-ON: When the bike turns on, the helmet powers on automatically, no user input required. This ensures Active Safety tech is running on all rides.
-
Automatic brake light: When the bike decelerates, the helmet’s brake light activates automatically – giving the rider better communication to drivers around them.
-
Light Match: Helmet lights mirror the bike’s light settings, giving the rider full control of lighting from the same place - the handlebars.
This is just the beginning of a growing list of features as the integration evolves over time, with several new features already under development.
Since 2021, UNIT 1 has pioneered the integration between helmets and eBike systems – first with Stromer, now expanded across brands. The integration of eBike systems from Bosch is the largest expression of that mission to date: seamless integration at platform scale, with one of the world’s leading manufacturers of eBike systems.
UNIT 1 helmets carry a Virginia Tech 5-star safety rating – the only Smart Helmet brand in the world to hold that distinction. The integration of live ride data from the Live Data Interface from Bosch adds a connected intelligence layer to that foundation: the best protection isn’t only the one that absorbs the impact. It is the one that communicates clearly enough that the impact never comes.
“We started this years ago with Stromer connecting the helmet natively to the eBike for the first time. The industry didn’t have a name for it yet. Now Bosch eBike Systems has built a standardised interface, and UNIT 1 is the first within the helmet segment to integrate with it – showcasing the future of connected safety on the road. It’s a validation of the direction we've believed in for years, and it's encouraging to see the biggest players across the industry embracing similar approaches. This is the new standard, and we are only at the beginning of what it can become.”

Disponibilità
UNIT 1's integration of the Live Data Interface from Bosch will be backward-compatible with any UNIT 1 adult helmet and any bike equipped with the smart system from Bosch, dating back to 2022 – the year Bosch introduced this generation of its smart system.
The integration will go live on the UNIT 1 side in Fall 2026 and be available to all existing UNIT 1 users - of FARO, AURA, and NEON - via a free Firmware update. As of 2027, all new UNIT 1 helmets will include compatibility with the Live Data Interface from Bosch, not as an add-on but as a built-in capability - straight out of the box.
